Why a data leader writes songs

Long before "data governance" was on my job title, I was a pianist-songwriter writing music inspired by everyday life. When I moved into data governance at adidas, I realized the discipline had a branding problem: nobody gets excited about "policies and standards."

Music at adidas wasn't just a side project, either: I founded and led The Adidazzlers, a company choir that grew to 50+ colleagues singing together.

So I did what came naturally: I wrote a song about it. Governors of Data became the most-played piece of data music I've ever released, and "data musicals" have been part of my keynotes ever since, with live piano woven directly into the talk.

Beyond the keynote stage, I perform live piano at weddings, anniversaries and company parties, from quiet background sets to a full sing-along.
